1897 FIFE & DRUM CORPS: Killingworth, Conn.

Members of the Killingworth Fife & Drum Corps gathered on the steps of the Branford Congregational Church in 1897 for this photo. Joining Drum Major Charles Redfield, front and center, were four members of family.

Over the centuries in Killingworth, Parmelee men often were drummers who summoned the faithful to church and served in military units. As late as the 1990s, one member of the family was a bell-ringer at the local Congregational Church.
