![]() But to tell you my opinion about such things may make you start. A Deist that has some sight for this opinion in some instances and in others he has none whatsoever -- We will talk with perfect ease of things we know nothing about. Bring the Bible as a proof, missing the language and confounding one word with another and in which manner you care to take the meaning of it in any other way than the one he chooses to give you though I do not profess to believe all I read & hear. But there is no harm in hearing both sides. I will say nothing about your going to hear and my opinion of it but I will give you mine pretty [--?--]. I do not like to see a man get up in a room crowded with people and being to spout about with which he knows nothing -- only his own thoughts and now I will tell you what I think of your going to the Hall of Science. The present age is of liberal and Enlightened. To have an narrow taking of such a subject if they do not like what the Diest says why they will not go to hear them. I say let a person go to anyplace of worship and any mode of fashion that it may be conducted in. If you go to hear the Diest and he tells you what you believe to be true, why then I say it is true and if not come away with all you have heard will neither hurt nor give you any good. I do not think you any the worse for going and in fact you never was very good but you must excuse my joke this morning. And instead of hiring[?] you a dangerous acquaintence, I shall write you more often. You may not be apprized of Evan Lewis being at present in New York. I have last seen and he told me to tell you that he was well and fussing around as usual. I do not know whether I shall visit Albany this summer or not. But if I do come I will not forget you. ...
