JOHN PARMELEE: John S. Parmelee 1838-1881

The John Parmelee worked on the Great Lakes for years under owner John S. Parmelee [Luman, Timothy, Mark, Job, John, John] out of Cleveland. The tug was built by his father, Luman (1807-1872).

Murray Parmalee Torrance writes in 1931 of pictures of the boat with his grandfather, John, aboard. This picture is from a doctored post card -- it almost looks as if the icicles were painted on. And the name almost looks like "J. W. Parmelee." Perhaps this is another tug?
