JOHN ELLSWORTH PARMELY 1866-1942

John lived in Hand County, S.D., as young man. He moved to Chamberlain where he was employed by the U. S. Post Office for a number of years, then served as county sheriff for two terms. He was appointed deputy U.S. marshal, in which capacity he served several years. From there he went to Hartington, Nebr., where he served as chief of police for several years. He returned to Chamberlain shortly before his death where he was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
