Mae was the daughter of Rep. Robert Lee of Texas.

This picture accompanied the announcement of her 1913 engagement to Harold, an ensign, who had recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Harold, originally from San Diego, served in the Navy until 1919, eventually promoted to lieutenant commander.
