William was always on the move. Before getting married, he lived in Indian, Minnesota, Iowa and New York, where he enlisted when the Civil War broke out.

He and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Buck Black, the daughter of Thomas Biddle and Anna Maria (Buck) Black, were married in 1869 at Leavenworth, Kans.

He clerked at a hardware store in Iowa City, Iowa, for two years and then moved his family back to New York City where he worked as a receiving teller for the bank of Duncan, Sherman & Co.

He later moved to Leavenworth, Kans., where he was in the banking, hardware and furniture businesses. In his later years, he lived in Omaha, Nebr., and Philadelphia, Pa., before returning to Leavenworth.

We also have photos of their son Irving Biddle Parmelee.
