James Parmley was among a class of 66 new troopers
graduated from the New York State Police Academy upon
examination of the basic training course that began
Nov. 14. The new troopers will report for field duty
after a two weeks' vacation and for the next few
months will work under the supervision of senior
officers. Addressing the graduates at exercises in
the Academy auditorium was Maj. Gen. John C. Baker,
chief of staff to the governor and the father of a
state trooper. Among the graduates was the fifth
woman to enter the ranks of the State Police.
Parmley, 23, of 14 Main St., Geneseo, is married
to the former Sharon M. McCormack of Shaker Heights,
Ohio, and they have one son, Bryan J., 1. He is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Parmley of 4819 Crossett
Road, Geneseo. He was graduated from Geneseo Central
School in 1969 and received an A.S. Degree in
business administration in 1971 and an A.A.S. Degree
in criminal justice in 1973 for Monroe Community
College, Rochester. Prior to joining the State
Police, he was a deputy sheriff with the Livingston
County Sheriff's Department, Geneseo. He will be
assigned to Trooper F. Middletown.
